Birthday Books!
/Mr. UpCountry bought some really great books for my birthday presents (awww yeah - April 28). Even though I gave him a long list of books I wanted, he has this innate knack for being able to choose the ones he knows I'll use the most.
The books are:
- The Week-By-Week Vegetable Gardener's Handbook: This one looks amazing. It provides basic gardening information in its introductory pages and then breaks down the season (which was a lot longer than I envisioned) week by week, giving you instructions for sowing, maintenance and harvesting. I'm reading the introductory pages to him now; this week I'm sure I'll stick my nose right in the nitty gritty of it!
- Put 'Em Up!: A Comprehensive Home Preserving Guide for the Creative Cook: With all of the veggies I'm planning for this year's garden, I need a longterm plan for their preservation. I have no experience with canning, dehydrating or freezing, so this guide is going to prove crucial for me (I know it).
- Mini Farming: Self Sufficiency on 1/4 Acre: I'm intrigued by the fact that a family can essentially provide for themselves on a quarter-acre. We have more than that to work with here, but since I'm starting small(ish), I wanted to find out the methods of maximizing space and using land efficiently.
